7 Hacks Backpackers Can Use to Save Money

Primary tabs

When you’re out there traveling the world as a backpacker, things can get expensive very quickly. It can be pretty tough to keep a consistent budget when you’re just focused on enjoying your experience and seeing all you can before you have to come back home. The good news for you is that there are plenty of simple hacks you can do to save money on your journeys. Down below, you’re going to read all about these hacks and how you can implement them in your travels.

1. Download All of Your Movies Before-Hand

One of the best features that comes with having a Netflix account is your ability to save all of your movies offline to watch later. This is great so you don’t have to purchase any subscriptions or buy movies on your plane ride or long bus rides to your next destination. Plus, those rides are going to go a whole lot faster when you have a whole TV series or tons of your favorite movies downloaded already.

2. Don’t Carry Anything That You’re Not Going to Bring Back

This is a hard and fast rule that you should apply to all of your travels. When you’re packing, try to not take anything that you’re not going to bring back with you. This largely applies to your toiletries and those extra items that you can buy once you’re in your destination of choice. This is going to save you on any potential extra baggage fees you might pay if you go overweight.

3. Search Some of The Top Free Activities to Do

There are tons of free activities to do in every single destination around the world. You just have to put in the effort to find these free things and add them to your list! Whether that’s free museums, public parks, or some cool monuments, these are definitely a better choice than shelling out tons of money for expensive activities. You could even get the Electric Rider to ride around on to these places!

4. Try Calling Your Hotel to Sweet-Talk Them into A Better Deal

You shouldn’t take those hotel prices at face-value. Most of the time, it’s possible for you to reach out to the hotel over phone and sweet-talk them into a better deal. Try this out on your next trip to see how low you can get the prices to go!

5. Try Out the Off Season Rather Than the High Season

A fantastic idea to save a lot of money when you travel is to trying traveling in the off seasons, rather than the high seasons. This is because hotels, restaurants, and all other related businesses will lower their prices as the tourists leave. They only raise rates as high as they can go when tourists are there. You can work around this system by traveling when the prices are the lowest!

6. Don’t Buy Souvenirs

If you’re thinking about buying your family and friends souvenirs when you’re traveling, but want to save money, all is not lost! You can find plenty of free or low-cost souvenirs to bring back instead of those costly ones you’ll find in stores. Think about it. Wouldn’t your mom rather have a seashell you found on the beach in Thailand rather than a shirt that says “I <3 Thailand”?

7. Book A Flight in The Early Morning or Late at Night

And lastly, a great way to save money when you’re backpacking is to book your flight so it leaves early in the morning or late at night. This has the potential to save you hundreds of dollars, as these flights are going to be way more affordable than more normal times for flying.

Make sure to remember these hacks if you want to keep your budget in check when you’re backpacking the country or the world. You wouldn’t want to be stuck out there in the big, wide world without the money to pay for things!
